Community Involvement

Vivian Yuen is a Canadian immigration lawyer at Larlee Rosenberg. Prior to rejoining the firm (where she originally worked for ten years), Vivian worked at a multinational tech company for five years managing its immigration program.

Vivian practices in all areas of immigration law, including applications for work permits, permanent residence, family sponsorship, permanent resident card renewals, and citizenship. Her clients have included individuals and families from all areas of the world to companies in various sectors, including information technology, entertainment, manufacturing, infrastructure, construction, engineering, mining, clean technology, finance, and education.

During her time working at a tech company, Vivian had co-founded and led a Canadian immigration benchmarking group of in-house corporate immigration, mobility, and HR professionals. In addition to immigration, Vivian’s mobility experience includes management of international relocations and work from home policy.

Vivian has served as a Director of the Burnaby Board of Trade, and Chair of its Pacific Gateway Committee. She has served as a committee co-chair of the Canadian Bar Association (BC) Women Lawyers Forum. She has presented at conferences on various immigration topics.

In addition to English, Vivian speaks Cantonese and understands Mandarin.

  • Represented a multinational infrastructure company involved in the construction of bridges and highways across Canada; implementing immigration strategy to transition the company’s foreign workers to permanent residents.
  • Successfully obtained work permits under confirmation-exempt categories, including NAFTA professionals and intra-company transferees.
  • Assisted Canadian employers in various sectors in successfully obtaining Labour Market Impact Assessments to hire temporary foreign workers on an expedited basis.
  • Successfully assisted students in obtaining study permits, renewals and restoration of status after their initial applications had been refused; advised students on the Canadian Experience Class and other options for permanent residence post-graduation.
  • Obtained nominations for permanent residence through the British Columbia Nominee Program (BC PNP) and Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP).
  • Acquired permanent resident status for applicants in Canada under humanitarian and compassionate grounds.
  • Successfully assisted applicants overcome section 117(9)(d) in sponsorship cases.
  • Obtained permanent resident card renewals for applicants, including those who are employed full-time overseas by Canadian employers.
  • Successfully represented appellants in spousal sponsorship and residency appeals at the Immigration Appeal Division at the Immigration and Refugee Board.
